The Tallot -

This pattern was created with the help of Google Gemini AI pro for @BunkHomeCreations.com

Designed for women petite, size S-M, A "bolero-style" shrug fitted above the waist and hit around the mid-forearm. Meant as a quick gift, use a 6.0mm (J) hook with a single strand of worsted weight yarn. This larger hook creates a looser, drape-ier "open cell" that grows very quickly.

Have fun, show us your finished projects! -BHC team

1. Dimensions & Gauge

Target Rectangle Size: 34" wide x 19" tall.

Gauge Goal: Roughly 3 "cells" (DC + Ch 1) per 2 inches.

Note: Don't stress the gauge; this shape is extremely forgiving!

2. The Pattern

Foundation Row: Chain 72. (This should measure approximately 34" when pulled slightly. If it looks too short for her arm span, add chains in multiples of 2).

Row 1: Double Crochet (DC) in the 4th chain from the hook. Ch 1, skip 1 foundation chain, DC in the next chain. Repeat from * to * across the entire row. Turn.

Row 2 (The "Speedy" Row): Ch 4 (this counts as your first DC + Ch 1).

Skip the first DC.

DC into the Ch-1 space of the previous row. (Doing this instead of stitching into the top of the DC is much faster and creates a cleaner "cell" look).

Ch 1, DC into the next Ch-1 space. * Repeat from * to * across, ending with a DC in the turning chain space. Turn.

Repeat Row 2 until the piece measures 19 inches from the starting edge. Fasten off, leaving a long tail (about 20") for sewing.

3. Assembly (Under 10 Minutes)

Lay Flat: Place your finished rectangle flat with the "right side" facing down.

The "Hot Dog" Fold: Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise (bringing the long 34" edges together).

Seam the Sleeves: * Starting at one outer corner, sew the two layers together moving toward the center fold.

Stop sewing after 5 inches. This creates the sleeve.

Repeat on the other side.

Flip: Turn the garment right-side out. The unsewn center area (approx. 24") is the body of the shrug.

4. Design Refinements for Her Size

Height Consideration: At 5'3", a 19" height ensures the shrug doesn't look like a "blanket" on her. If she prefers it even more cropped, stop at 17".

The "Speed" Edge: Because you are using a DC + Ch 1 mesh, you do not need to add a border. The natural "cells" create a decorative lace-like edge automatically.

Stitch Fiddle Tip: If you want to visualize this on StitchFiddle.com, set up a "Crochet Chart" with 35 columns and approx. 22 rows. This will give you a perfect digital template of the grid you're building.

Materials Needed

Yarn: 2 skeins (approx. 400-500 yards) of worsted weight yarn (e.g., Red Heart Super Saver, Lion Brand Vanna's Choice).

Hook: 6.0mm (J).

Darning Needle: For the two small underarm seams.
